How to make it

  • Blend the flour, salt and shortening until crumbly.
  • Then make a paste of the 1/4 cup of flour and 1/3 cup of water.
  • Pour paste mixture onto crumbly mixture.
  • Mix and then roll out onto floured counter.
  • Flour the rolling pin too.
  • For single crust for soft pie: Bake at 425 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • This makes a light, flaky, tender pie crust.

    Wow a nice extra twist with adding a paste.... I will have to give your grandmother's recipe a try - as I am always trying to perfect the pie pastry!
