Cottage Pie

- 15 ml olive oil shopping list
- 2 fat garlic cloves, crushed shopping list
- 1 large onion, finely chopped shopping list
- 500 g extra-lean beef or ostrich mince shopping list
- 3 large carrots, peeled and grated shopping list
- 10 ml tomato paste shopping list
- 15 ml beef-stock powder shopping list
- 100 ml water shopping list
- 10 ml worcestershire sauce shopping list
- 5 ml sugar shopping list
- 2 whole chillies shopping list
- 80 ml chopped fresh parsley shopping list
- 450 g topping: large potatoes, cut into chunks shopping list
- 45 ml fat-free milk shopping list
- 30 ml chicken or vegetable stock shopping list
- 5 ml salt shopping list
- 5 ml pepper shopping list
How to make it
- Heat olive oil in a pot.
- Add garlic and onion, and stir-fry for a minute or two.
- Add mince, stir constantly and allow to brown.
- Add carrots and toss to mix well.
- Stir in remaining ingredients, except herbs and bring to the boil. Topping: Boil potatoes until soft.
- Drain and mash with milk and stock to achieve desired consistency.
- Season well.
- Spoon mashed potato onto mince mixture. This is slightly easier to do if the mince has cooled a bit.
- Sprinkle with paprika and bake in preheated 180?C oven for about 20 minutes.
- Grill to brown if necessary.
- Serve with steamed vegetables or salad.
