How to make it

  • Pour boiling water over the horehound leaves and stems
  • Steep for about 5 minutes
  • The tea should be bitter tasting and dark ,but not black
  • Strain
  • Measure 2 cups of horehound tea
  • Add the sugar,corn syrup(and ,or, Honey)and butter
  • Bring to boil and cook stirring occasionally,to hard,crack stage 300 degree
  • Pour into buttered 15 1/2x10 1/2 pan,score with knife
  • Break into squares
  • Note:If there is residue forming around the side of the pan during boiling,Skim off
  • Yields 2 and1/2 pounds
