- 1 LB. cooking apples shopping list
- 2 OZ. bicarbonate of soda shopping list
- 2 eggs shopping list
- 1/2 OZ. sugar shopping list
- PINCH OF salt shopping list
- 2 TABPN water shopping list
- 4 sponge cakes shopping list
- SMALLISH ONES, LIKE SPONGE FINGERS shopping list
- 1/2 PINT OF milk shopping list
- 4 DROPS OF vanilla essence shopping list
- 1 OZ. caster sugar shopping list
How to make it
- STEW THE APPLES, CUT FINELY, WITH THE WATER AND SUGAR.
- CUT SPONGE CAKES IN HALF AND ARRANGE IN A DISH.
- PUT THE EGG WHITES IN A LARGE CLEAN BASIN.
- PUT THE YOLKS IN A SMALL BASIN.
- HEAT THE MILK TILL JUST BOILING AND ADD TO THE EGG YOLKS.
- RETURN THE CUSTARD TO THE PAN AND STIR OVER A LOW HEAT TILL SET.
- PUT THE STEWED APPLES OVER THE SPONGES.
- COVER WITH THE CUSTARD AND ALLOW TO SET AND GO COLD.
- BEAT THE WHITES OF THE EGGS TO A MERINGUE ADDING THE VANILLA ESSENCE AND CASTER SUGAR, BEATING STIFFLY/
- ARRANGE ON AND AROUND THE APPLE DISH.
- PLACE IN A COOLISH OVEN FOR 10 MINUTES TO SET THE MERINGUE.
