Vintage Comfort French Toast Recipe
VINTAGE COMFORT FRENCH TOAST This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Campbell Estate in Terrell, Texas in 1991.

Ingredients
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 cups cornflakes
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons sugar
  • 6 slices dense white bread

Directions
  1. Stir in eggs, milk, nutmeg and salt together in a bowl until well blended.
  2. Crumble cornflakes and spread on a piece of wax paper.
  3. Dip both sides of each slice of bread into milk batter.
  4. Press each slice of bread on both sides of cornflakes to coat bread well.
  5. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in 12" skillet over medium heat and fry 3 slices of bread until golden.
  6. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon sugar on top of each slice and keep warm in a 250 oven.
  7. Continue process with remaining toast.
  8. Serve hot with your favorite syrup.
