Excellent Pie Crust Recipe

Excellent Pie Crust Recipe
This recipe is pretty basic but the combination of butter & shortening retains the great buttery flavor but has a very nice "flakeiness" about it.

Ingredients
  • 5 cups of flour
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 sticks of butter
  • 8 ounces chilled Crisco shortening
  • 3/4 cup plus 1-2 tablespoons of ice water or as needed
  • Pie filling of choice

Directions
  1. In large bowl, stir flour and sugar together, then add butter & shortening. Blend with pastry blender or fork or your fingertips until well combined. The mixture should resemble course crumbs.
  2. Add water and toss with a fork until water is well incorporated.
  3. Gently gather dough and fold it over on itself briefly for a few seconds to distribute the fat evenly.
  4. Divide it into 4 equal parts formed into disks, wrap and chill for an hour or more.
  5. Remove first disk and roll out on lightly floured surface to fit a 9 - inch pie plate. Repeat the process for top crust or cut in strips for a lattice appearance.
