How to make it

  • Melt butter in 3 quart saucepan over low heat then stir in flour.
  • Cook over low heat stirring constantly until mixture is smooth then remove from heat.
  • Stir in broth then heat to boiling stirring constantly.
  • Boil and stir 1 minute then stir in tomato, carrot, onion, celery, browning sauce and pepper.
  • Heat to boiling then reduce heat to low.
  • Cover and simmer 30 minutes.
  • While vegetables are simmering cook beef in skillet over medium heat 7 minutes then drain.
  • Stir vegetables and beef into soup then heat to boiling and reduce heat to low.
  • Cover and simmer 20 minutes.
