How to make it

  • Drain, pit and chop plums, reserving syrup
  • Combine plums, syrup, water, sugar and cinnamon, pepper and salt and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and cook for 5 minutes
  • Stir in heavy cream and red wine mixed with cornstarch.
  • Continue cooking and stirring until thick.
  • Add lemon juice and rind and remove from heat
  • Whisk one cup of soup with sour cream and brandy in separate bowl until smooth, then add to rest of plum mixture
  • Chill, covered, at least 4 hours
  • Garnish with additional dollop of sour cream and sprinkle cinnamon if desired
