Cheddar Chowder

- Cook these first- shopping list
- 2 cups water shopping list
- 2 cups diced potatoes shopping list
- 1/2 cup shredded or diced carrots shopping list
- 1/2 cup diced celery shopping list
- 1 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 1/2 to 1 teaspoon black pepper (or more) shopping list
- White sauce: shopping list
- 1/4 cup butter shopping list
- 1/4 cup flour shopping list
- 2 cups milk shopping list
- 2 cups shredded or grated cheddar cheese shopping list
- 1 cup of cooked bacon (crispy is better) You may use more or less of bacon shopping list
- or you can use 1/2 cup of cooked ham shopping list
How to make it
- Boil the first ingredients together for about 10 to 12 minutes until tender
- While the above is cooking, prepare white sauce:
- In a sauce pan, melt butter then add the flour.slowly as you would in making gravy and stir until smooth
- Slowly add milk and stir as it cooks to keep the smooth consistancy
- Add the cheese and continue to stir on low to medium heat until cheese is melted.
- Add the bacon or ham and the ingredients listed first and cooked earlier.
- Cook until mixed and heated through. (Stir often)
- Serve hot and with good old fashioned corn bread.
