How to make it

  • Cream the butter and sugar together until light and pale in colour
  • Add the beaten eggs a little at a time
  • Stir in the sifted flour and baking powder
  • Add the cold water
  • Add the caraway seeds and give a final stir
  • Bake in a moderate oven for one and a half hours
  • Gas mark 6
  • Electric 325f / 160-170c
