I found this recipe in a 13 year old issue of The Herb Companion. I was anxious to try it, because I know how well plantain works for bee stings...

Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup fresh plantain (see photo if you don't know what it looks like)
  • 1/2 cup fresh sage
  • 1 cup sunflower or almond oil
  • 3 tablespoons grated beeswax

Directions
  1. Chop the herbs (doesn't need to be too fine) and put in a double boiler (or I use one of those small crock pots) with the oil.
  2. Heat on low for two hours.
  3. Cool, then strain through several layers of cheesecloth until you've removed most of the plant bits.
  4. Put it back in double boiler or crock pot, and add the beeswax.
  5. Melt together.
  6. Cool again.
  7. Before it becomes solid, pour into a clean jar.
  8. Keep in refrigerator to avoid mold.
  9. Great for bug bites, bee stings, blisters, scrapes, burns!
