- Pomfrets - 2 (500gms each) shopping list
- salt - to taste shopping list
- lemon juice - 1 tbsp shopping list
- turmeric powder - quarter tbsp shopping list
- onion - 1 medium sized shopping list
- lemons - 2 shopping list
- oil - to shallow fry shopping list
- FOR THE masala PASTE shopping list
- ginger - 1 inch piece shopping list
- Red chillies - 8 shopping list
- cumin seeds - half tsp shopping list
- garlic - 8 cloves shopping list
- peppercorns - 5 shopping list
- cloves - 5 shopping list
- cinnamon - half inch stick shopping list
- vinegar - 2 tbsps shopping list
- sugar - half tsp shopping list
- salt - to taste shopping list
How to make it
- Wash, clean and pat dry the fish. Make diagonal slits on either sides of the fish using a sharp knife. Rub salt, lemon juice, turmeric powder, inside and outside of the fish. Keep aside for half an hour preferably in a refrigerator.
- To make the masala paste, peel and wash ginger. Remove stems of red chillies. Combine with rest of the ingredients of the masala paste and grind to a smooth paste, using little water if required.
- Apply paste on both sides of the fish and keep aside for 15 minutes preferably in the refrigerator.
- Wash and cut lemons into wedges. Peel and wash and cut the onions into roundels and then into separate rings. Keep aside to serve as accompaniments.
- Heat oil in a pan and shallo fry fish till golden on both sides.
- Serve hot with lemon wedges, onion rings and chutney of your choice.
