How to make it

  • Combine flour, baking powder and salt then stir well.
  • Gradually add water to flour mixture stirring until smooth.
  • Stir in sesame seeds then dip onions in batter and fry in deep oil heated to 375.
  • Fry until golden turning once then drain well on paper towels and serve warm.

    This was delicious. The only problem we had was that the onion would slide out of the shell with the first bite. We mostly corrected this by making two cuts almost all the way through the onion at 1/3 and 2/3 down the onion. Then the onion pretty much breaks apart when bitten. We also dusted the finished onions with sea salt (one batch) and the other batch we used Old Bay. Really yummy!
