Ingredients
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 large beaten egg
  • 3 pounds apples peeled,cored and diced 1/4 " pieces
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon
  • pinch cloves
  • 3 tbsp Sherry
  • 2/3 cup toasted almond slices
  • Whipped Cream

Directions
  1. Preheat oven 375*
  2. grease and flour 10" springform pan
  3. In large bowl combine flour 1cup sugar and baking powder.
  4. Cut in butter
  5. Incorporate the beaten egg while still crumbly reserve 1/2 cup for topping
  6. Mix remainder in a ball and press gently over bottom and up sides of pan
  7. Dough should be uniformly thick about 1/4 inch
  8. Mix prepared apples, juice, sugar, spices and Sherry together and place over the crust. Filling will be over the top of the pan but baking will change that.
  9. Sprinkle the reserved topping over the tart
  10. Bake on middle rack until top is golden brown about 1 hour.
  11. Allow to cool then refrigerate
  12. Unmold from pan cut into 12 servings serve with whipped cream and toasted almond slices
