How to make it

  • In medium heavy saucepan combine milk, cream and cocoa powder.
  • Warm over medium heat stirring to dissolve cocoa.
  • Add chopped chocolate and stir until it melts completely.
  • Bring mixture to simmer but do not boil.
  • Return heat to medium and cook 5 minutes stirring occasionally.
  • Remove saucepan from heat and stir in vanilla.
  • Stir mixture to cool briefly then pour into serving cups.
  • In bowl using a hand held mixer whip cream until frothy.
  • Add sugar and continue to whip until cream holds soft peaks.
  • Place a dollop of cream on top of each serving of hot chocolate.
