St Patricks Day Soda Bread

- 2 cups all purpose flour shopping list
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 1 tablespoon sugar shopping list
- 6 tablespoons chilled solid vegetable shortening shopping list
- 1 cup seedless dark raisins shopping list
- 1 tablespoons caraway seeds shopping list
- 3/4 cup buttermilk shopping list
How to make it
- In a large bowl, mix first 4 ingredients; cut shortening into flour mixture with pastry blender until course crumbs form.
- Lightly stir in raisins and caraway seeds.
- Add buttermilk; toss with fork until dry ingredients are just evenly moistened.
- Knead dough 3 or 4 times; shape into round loaf.
- Place on lightly greaded baking sheet.
- Brush top with additional milk.
- Score top of bread with a big x with a sharp knife.
- Bake in preheated oven at 375 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes.
