Chinese Sweet And Sour Pork Recipe
Cantonese style pork dish that is every bit as good as you will get in a Chinese restaurant. Serve with rice and an egg roll...Great!

Ingredients
  • 1 pound of lean pork, cut into 1" cubes (I use boneless chops or loin)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 tsp. 5 spice powder
  • 2 Tbl. dry sherry
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 Tbl. cornstarch
  • peanut oil for frying (any vegetable oil will do)
  • 1 can (20 oz.) lychee, drained
  • 1 can (20 oz.) pineapple chunks with syrup
  • 2 Tbl. oil
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1 large onion, chopped coarsely (1 1/2" - 2" pieces)
  • 1 small green bell pepper seeded and chopped coarsely
  • 1 small red bell pepper seeded and chopped coarsely
  • 3 Tbl. red wine vinegar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup

Directions
  1. Cook pork cubes briefly in boiling water until they just change color.
  2. Drain the pork, cool and dry thoroughly on paper towels.
  3. Mix together the salt, pepper, 5 spice powder, sherry, egg, and cornstarch.
  4. Add the pork and coat well.
  5. Fry the coated pork until lightly browned (golden), and drain on paper towels.
  6. Heat 2 tbl.spoons oil in a saute pan and fry garlic until lightly browned,
  7. Add onions, green and red bell peppers, stir-fry for 1-2 minutes.
  8. Stir in the pineapple syrup/juice from can along with the vinegar, sugar, and ketchup.
  9. Add the pork.
  10. Cook stirring until thickened.
  11. Stir in the pineapple chnks and lychees, and cook until heated thru.
  12. Serve hot.
