How to make it

  • Sift flour with baking powder and salt then set aside.
  • Beat egg and add sugar slowly then blend in 1 tablespoon butter.
  • Stir in dates and nuts then gradually add flour mixture and mix well.
  • Pour into greased square pan then spread evenly and bake at 325 for 30 minutes.
  • Cool in pan on wire rack then spread top with glaze and cut into 24 sticks.
  • To make glaze combine milk, butter, confectioners' sugar, lemon juice and lemon rind.
  • Heat over low heat until well blended then cool slightly before pouring over cookies.
