This is fantastic! My 82 year old Father-in-law recently made his own apple and pear compote and his recipe is very similar to this. He didn't add the Calvados but he did add 2 cloves. His turned out tasting delicious and I was so surprised to find this recipe here. High 5 ChaCha!
