How to make it

  • In a Dutch oven, cook onion in hot oil until tender (not browned).
  • Stir in tomatoes, chicken broth, water, tomato sauce, sage, salt and pepper.
  • Bring to a boil, reduce heat. Cover and simmer about 30 to 35 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and cool slightly.
  • Place 1/2 of mixture at a time into a blender and blend until smooth. Repeat with remaining mixture.
  • Return to saucepan. Stir in cooked tortellini, heat through.
  • Garnish with parmesan cheese .
