Ingredients

How to make it

  • Add dry ingredients to mug, & mix well .
  • Add egg & mix thoroughly.
  • Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
  • Add chocolate chips (if using), vanilla, mix again.
  • Set mug in the microwave & cook for 2½ to 3 min at 1,000 watts.
  • Cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
  • Some report that 2½ minutes works best. It depends upon your microwave. So, watch carefully to not over do it!
  • Remove from microwave.
  • Allow cake to cool a little, then tip out onto a plate, if desired.
  • Drizzle with chocolate syrup and top with whipped topping and cherries, if desired!
  • This can serve 2 if you care to share!

I just made this and it was FABULOUS! I omitted the baking powder and I substituted 3 Tbsp. applesauce for the oil. I also only used 2 tablespoons of a wisked egg. (I made substitutions to keep calories down) . I also used white whole wheat flour in place of plain white flour.... a tad bit healthier. Mine took exactly 3 minutes....it was awesome!

Perhaps you would like to re-think your math, or at least, double-check your sources. A tablespoon of oil has 120 calories, so obviously 3 tablespoons of oil is 360 calories. Not a skinny treat by any means, but not as evil as all that.

No pun intended, but lighten up, dear!

Just thought you would like to know that I calculated the calories in this. It is 1412. Ha, bet that'll make you think twice, thank the oil for that one, just the three tablespoons of oil alone has over 900!

And that's without any optional extras!!!

Amazing recipe. A dash of salt helps enhance the chocolate flavors. Also, I added a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Delightful!

    Pretty awesome recipe.
    Made it twice now.
Really only takes 5-7 minutes from start to finish.
The second time I added a dash of Sea Salt and it made it much better.

Any way to reduce the oil in this recipe? The 3 tablespoons really drives the calories up. Any suggestions on how to reduce or substitute for it?

Other than that, no complaints! Super delicious. I added fresh raspberries after it was done and it was amazing.

I put mine in for two minutes and it was perfect! Still slightly runny in the middle (: Also, I didn't put as much cocoa in mine as it's a little strong for me! Otherwise, best chocolate mug recipe so far :D

Really good! Do not overcook or it gets rubbery/dry. The chips do sink to the bottom but that's okay. I add a tablespoon or two of good quality raspberry jam to the warm cake. I like that it makes a small cake so I'm not tempted to eat a whole cake or batch of cupcakes by myself. Plus I think it's more satisfying warm!

I made this with Splenda and it was really good that way..also, when the cake came out, I sliced it in half and put the chips on each half to melt, then a little whipped cream, and ate it warm. Very satisfying!

Works great, though I found adding a quarter tsp. of baking powder really lightens it up. It does need a minimum of a 12-ounce mug; ceramic is best. Great recipe.
