Ingredients
  • Popcorn pops because of the moisture in the kernels. If you corn has lost it's pop... like it's been in storage a long time, (huh?) You will need to put the moisture back. Here's how:
  • 1. Fill a quart jar 3/4 full with popcorn kernels
  • 2. Add 1 Tablespoon of water
  • 3. Cover jar and shake until water disapears
  • 4. Let jar stand for two or three days (HUH?!?!) and the popcorn will be ready to pop.

  • Perfect Pop Corn from Aton Brown
  • 3 tablespoons peanut oil
  • 3 ounces popcorn kernels, approximately 1/2 cup
  • 1/2 teaspoon popcorn salt
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Place the oil, popcorn and salt in a large, 6-quart, metal mixing bowl. Cover with heavy-duty aluminum foil and poke 10 slits in the top with a knife.
  • Place the bowl over medium heat and shake constantly using a pair of tongs to hold the bowl. Continue shaking until the popcorn finishes popping, approximately 3 minutes.
  • Remove the bowl from the heat and carefully remove the foil. Stir in any salt that is on the side of the bowl.
  • Melt the butter in the microwave. Slowly drizzle over the popcorn, while spinning the bowl. Serve immediately.

Directions
  1. Use super fine salt for your popcorn. You can make it yourself by whirling 1 cup kosher salt in a food processor until very fine.
  2. Add some grated orange or lemon, or lime peel (or some of all)
  3. Mix 4 cups poppped corn with 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, place in a low oven for 5 minutes until cheese melts
  4. Drizzle with melted chocolate
  5. Sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese and lemon pepper
  6. Add curry, tarragon, basil to melted butter and pour over popcorn
  7. Melt 2 Tbs butter over low heat. Dissolve 1 chicken boullion into melted butter, drizzle over popcorn
  8. Sprinkle with chili powder and popcorn salt (see #1)
  9. Mix with dried fruits, toasted coconut, nuts or berries
  10. Eat it for breakfast like cereal, top with milk or cream, sugar and sliced fruit
  11. Serve with soup instead of crackers
  12. Sprinkle with herb salt
  13. Sprinkle with Old Bay Seasoning or Lawry's Season salt
  14. Sprinkle with a couple teaspoons of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing/dip mix.
