NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS COFFEECAKE This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Almond Estate in Grand Prairie, Texas in 1992.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1 package yeast dissolved in 3 tablespoons warm water
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • Topping:
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Directions
  1. Cream together sugar and butter then add eggs, milk, 1 package yeast , flour, salt and vanilla.
  2. Beat all of these ingredients together then set dough aside and let it rise until double in size.
  3. When your coffeecake dough has risen to double the size put it in a greased rectangular pan.
  4. Combine sugar, cinnamon, melted butter and nuts then spread over cake.
  5. Place in a cold oven and leave it in there overnight to rise.
  6. The next morning turn oven to 350 and bake for 30 minutes then take out and serve warm.
