Moist spice cake that is easy to make but time consuming. Lasts for months in the fridge.

Ingredients
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1 c brown sugar
  • 2 c hot water
  • 2 c fruit (raisins, dates, prunes etc)
  • 2 tbs cinnamon
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 heaping tbs crisco or lard
  • 1/4 hot water
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 c applesauce
  • 4 cups flour

Directions
  1. In a large deep pot combined the first 8 ingredients and bring to a boil. Boil for 5 mins, let cool for a bit
  2. Mix 1/4 hot water with 2 tsp baking soda and mix into your pot before the mixture cools to much.
  3. Now add the applesauce and flour
  4. Batter will be on the stiff side
  5. Line bread pan with wax paper and fill with batter
  6. Bake @ 275F for 2 hours.
  7. Bread should be dark and very moist.
