Oatmeal Bread Recipe
This is the best homemade bread you will ever make! It is worth the work. Great with a little butter fresh from the oven or add a slice of cheese for a taste of heaven.

Ingredients
  • 4 cups boiling water
  • 2 cups oatmeal
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 3 T. oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 tsp. salt
  • 3 T. yeast
  • 9-10 cups of flour

Directions
  1. Combine the water, oatmeal, molasses, oil, sugar, and salt in large mixing bowl.
  2. Mix well
  3. Let cool until 110 degrees
  4. Add yeast
  5. Slowly mix in flour 1 cup at a time.
  6. Mixing with dough hook until dough is not sticky.
  7. Let rise 1 1/2 hours
  8. punch down
  9. Divide into 3 loaves
  10. Put into greased bread pans
  11. Let rise in pans 1 hour
  12. Bake 350 degrees for 45-50 minutles.
  13. Brush butter on top when removed from oven.

Question dont have a dough hook can I do this by hand? love the recipe and oatmeal bread. thanks


Yes, you can. The person that gave me the recipe didn't use a bread hook either. It also works by cutting the recipe down and putting everything into a bread machine. I like it best the old way.
