How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 450
  • Brandied Figs:
  • In a medium saucepan,over low heat,bring the figs,water and sugar slowly to a simmer.
  • poach 6 minutes (less time if using fresh fig)
  • Remove the figs and place in an airtight jar with the spices
  • Pour Brandy, and poaching syrup to to the top,cover tightly.
  • Allow the fruit to soak for 7 days
  • Pie Filling:
  • Mix together the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a small bowl.
  • In another bowl, sprinkle apples with the juice of 1 lemon and toss.
  • Gently mix in the pureed fig
  • Stir in the sugar mixture to evenly coat the apples and figs
  • Mound the apple fig and sugar mixture into the pie pan lined with dough.
  • Crumb Topping
  • mix all ingredients with a fork until crumbly
  • cover pie in thick coating with crumb topping
  • Bake for 45 mins and let rest for about 30 before serving
