How to make it

  • Crumble yeast into warm water. Let stand 5 minutes.
  • In the meantime, add sugar, Crisco shortening, and salt to hot milk. Stir until shortening melts and sugar dissolves. Cool to luke warm.
  • Combine milk and yeast mixtures.
  • Add eggs and half the flour. Beat well. Add remaining flour. Turn dough onto lightly floured board. Kneed until smooth.
  • Place dough in well greased bowl. Cover and let rise 1 1/2 hours, until double in bulk.
  • Roll dough to 1/2" thickness. Cut into pieces size of small walnut. Roll into balls. Dip each ball in melted bitter. And place in 10" tub pan.
  • Cover and let rise until double in bulk.
  • Heat oven to 350 degrees and bake for 20 minutes. Turn onto serving plate. Serve hot!
  • Do not cut, pull apart.
