These cookies are perfect for winter and the holidays.

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups dark molasses
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup cold water
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 7 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions
  1. Mix molasses brown sugar, water and shortening
  2. Mix in remaining ingredients
  3. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours
  4. Heat oven to 350F
  5. Roll dough 1/4 inch thick on floured board
  6. Cut with floured gengerbread cutter or favorite cutter
  7. Place about 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet
  8. 10-12 min cool
  9. Put frosting to decorate
