This recipe just isn't healthy. It's LOADED with sodium. Nearly 50% of the recommended daily intake if you use canned beans and salsa as the recipe claims. Sure it's low in fat, but it'll still give you heart disease or exacerbate your already high blood pressure. If you want a really healthy burrito, cut out the meat and dairy (there is convincing evidence that shows that animal protein is the main culprit in heart disease and many cancers), and use spinach instead of lettuce (which has almost no nutritional value). Cook your own dried beans and add no salt.

As to the sodium: since this recipe has almost 50% of your RDI of sodium, if in addition to this recipe for dinner, you just ate a bowl of cereal with some milk for breakfast and had two slices of bread on a sandwich for lunch, you'd already be at the maximum of 2000mg per day. And I know people consume much more sodium than this in a day. Americans have heart disease at a higher rate than any other country in the world: nearly 82% of Americans have it. This recipe won't help you to get healthy. Eat mostly plants in their whole food form and that's how you get healthy. And as an added benefit, those people who cut down on their sodium live healthier lives and aren't such a burden on the health-care system. Smarten up people! The best way to get healthy is to eat plants!

I might substitude 4 oz (1/2 c) brown rice in place of half the ground beef, and add 1 pkg taco seasoning. I'm really hungry now.

I agree. I didn't think I would like whole wheat tortillas, but I made chicken enchiladas with them once and I was hooked. Also these are basically a Taco Bell Burrito Supreme minus the cheese. Thanks for sharing. It's a keeper.
