Chocolate Strawberry Port Cake Recipe
This is an incredible recipe that comes from a Sunday School teacher a few years back. She is an incredible baker and this is one of her specialties. Enjoy

Ingredients
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate pieces divided
  • 1/2 cup port wine divided
  • 2 eggs separated
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar divided
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 pint fresh strawberries stemmed and sliced
  • 1 cup whipping cream whipped and sweetened

Directions
  1. In double boiler over simmering water melt butter and 1/2 cup chocolate in 1/3 cup port.
  2. Stir and cool then beat egg yolks with 6 tablespoons sugar until thick and pale.
  3. Gradually beat in chocolate mixture then mix in flour and remaining chocolate.
  4. In another bowl beat egg whites with remaining sugar just until stiff.
  5. Gradually fold into chocolate batter then pour into greased and floured round layer pan.
  6. Bake at 325 for 30 minutes then cool in pan 5 minutes and loosen and invert onto plate.
  7. With back of spoon press shallow indentation into center of cake.
  8. Toss strawberries with remaining port then spoon into center of cake.
  9. Pipe or spoon whipped cream around edge.
