How to make it

  • To flour, add baking powder and salt and sift together 3 times.
  • Cream butter thoroughly.
  • Add sugar gradually and cream together until light and fluffy.
  • Add flour mixture alternately with milk a small amount at a time.
  • Beat after each addition until smooth.
  • Add vanilla, fold in eggs and nut kernels.
  • Bake in 3 layers at 350 degrees.

    Whoa, basic! I wonder how all that baking soda does with no acid to neutralize it. What would be a good substitute for hickory nuts?
