Ingredients
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 Tbsps. sugar
  • 2 Tbsps. butter
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast

Directions
  1. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup water.
  2. In a pan scald milk and add to it the salt, sugar and butter, when the butter is melted, pour out of the pan into mixing bowl.
  3. When milk is cool add yeast and flour and stir to mix thoroughly.
  4. Dough will be sticky---turn onto a heavily floured board (about 1 cup) and begin to knead.
  5. Knead at least 10 minutes or longer if desired, form in a smooth ball and place in a greased bowl, cover with damp towel and let rise at least 1 hour.
  6. Punch down and form into rolls or loaf, let rise one more hour and bake.
  7. By adding 1 egg, this makes excellent donuts or cinnamon rolls.
  8. By adding water instead of milk, this makes excellent French Bread.
  9. Bake at about 350 - 375 degree oven for loaf 45 minutes, for rolls about 15 minutes.
  10. Yield 1 loaf or 12 rolls.
