How to make it

  • Blanch onions in boiling water for 3 mins,then drain,cool and peel.
  • Heat oil over moderately high heat in a large skillet until hot but not smoking.. Add onions and saute until lightly browned.(about 5 mins). Reduce heat and pour balsamic vinegar and water over onions. Simmer,stirring occassionally until onions are tender(about 15 mins.) Using a slotted spoon,transfer onions to platter. Increase heat slightly and simmer till liquid is reduced to about 1/2 cup and is thick and syrupy. Spoon over onions. These are best at room temperature.
