Apple Craisin Pie At Midnight

- ***PASTRY*** shopping list
- 1 1/2 cups plain flour shopping list
- 3/4 cup wholemeal self-raising flour shopping list
- 1/3 cup custard powder shopping list
- 1/3 cup cornflour shopping list
- 1 Tbsp sugar shopping list
- 1 egg yolk shopping list
- 125g butter shopping list
- about 1/3 cup water (maybe more, maybe less..it was LATE okay??) shopping list
- ***FILLING*** shopping list
- 400g can pie apples (you couls substitute 2-3 real apples, peeled sliced and cooked if youre not making this at midnight haha..) shopping list
- 1/4 cup craisins shopping list
- egg white to glaze shopping list
- raw sugar to sprinkle shopping list
How to make it
- For the pastry, Combine all the dry ingredients ina big bowl.
- Rub in the butter. The mixture should look like breadcrumbs.
- Add the egg yolk and enough water to bring it together to form a dough.
- Wrap in plastic and leave in the fridge while you do the next few steps.
- Combine the apples and craisins.
- Preheat your oven to 190 celcius.
- Line a pie pan with baking paper.
- On a floured surface, roll out just over half of the dough, place in the bottom of the pie pan.
- Spoon in the filling.
- Roll out the rest of the pastry and place on top. Fold-over the edges of the pastry and press with a fork.
- Paint the pie with the egg white and sprinkle with sugar.
- Cut some little slits around the middle.
- Bake for 20 minutes, then lower the temp to 180 celcius and bake 20 minutes more.
- By this time its REALLY late, and parents are coming home drunk and demanding pie ...BUT ITS STILL BEATS THE HECK OUT OF A FROZEN ONE !
- OH and a pie-related question: WHY in some parts of america is apple pie served with cheese on top? im not knockin it, just curious...
