Ingredients
  • Oil for cooking
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 Tbs flour
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1/4 lb mushroom, sliced
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1½ cup water
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 Tbs Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 Tbs Bovril Beef Extract

Directions
  1. Mix together ground beef, egg, Italian bread crumbs, garlic powder and pepper
  2. form into 4 thin patties and dredge in 2 tbsp. flour
  3. heat small amount of oil in pan and fry patties until brown, turn to brown other side
  4. remove patties from pan and set aside
  5. add mushrooms to pan adding a little more oil if necessary and cook for about 5 minutes
  6. add onions and fry until onions are limp
  7. mix together water, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce and beef extract
  8. add 1/4 cup of flour to pan and stir to mix well, stir in water mixture and bring to a boil stirring constantly until mixture thickens, reduce heat
  9. return patties to pan and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until beef is no longer pink
  10. serve with mashed potatoes or scalloped potatoes and desired vegetable
