Mushroom Stew Recipe
MUSHROOM STEW This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Washington Estate in Spring, Texas in 1990.

Ingredients
  • 1 pound fresh mushrooms
  • 4 large yellow onions
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 stick butter

Directions
  1. In large pot cook mushrooms with butter over medium heat.
  2. Drain water that cooks out of mushrooms until they give no more reserving for soup.
  3. Sauté chopped onions in small amount of oil until brown then in a cast iron skillet.
  4. Melt 1 stick butter over low heat then add flour until thick stirring constantly.
  5. Add sour cream and stir until mixture is warm adding more flour if necessary to thicken.
  6. Combine all ingredients and stir well.
