How to make it

  • In a small sauce pan, heat the butter on low heat until lightly browned.
  • Add sugar and vanilla sugar to butter mixture
  • Remove from heat and allow to cool
  • Combine flour and baking powder
  • Beat cooled butter mixture into dry mixture to form smooth dough
  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees
  • Roll dough into balls of 1 in diameter and place on baking sheet
  • Press cookies down with tines of fork, or decorative stamp
  • If desired, top with blanched almonds or sprinkles
  • Bake for 20 minutes
  • Allow to cool for 1 minute then move to wire rack
