Mexican Aniseed Cookies Recipe
MEXICAN ANISEED COOKIES This is a recipe I obtained from an Estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Clinton Estate in Mesquite, Texas in 1988.

Ingredients
  • 1-1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon whole aniseed
  • 1 tablespoon brandy
  • 1/4 cup sugar mixed with 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions
  1. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt then set aside.
  2. Beat butter with sugar until soft and fluffy.
  3. Add egg, aniseed and brandy and beat until incorporated.
  4. Fold in dry ingredients until just blended to a dough then chill 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 350 then grease 2 baking sheets.
  6. On a lightly floured surface roll out chilled dough to 1/8” thick.
  7. With floured cutter or knife cut out cookies into squares.
  8. Place on prepared baking sheets and sprinkle lightly with cinnamon sugar.
  9. Bake for 10 minutes until just barely golden.
  10. Cool on sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire rack to cool completely.
