Sauteed Cube Steaks Recipe

Sauteed Cube Steaks Recipe
This is a gringa's version of puerto rican style cube steaks. This same method also works with pork chops.

Ingredients
  • 4 small or 2 large cube steaks
  • 1 small yellow or spanish onion
  • adobo (or seasoning salt of your choice) to taste
  • olive oil to cover pan

Directions
  1. Season cube steaks to taste up to one day in advance (but still tastes great if seasoned last minute)
  2. Quarter onion and then slice
  3. Cover bottom of large frying pan with oil
  4. Heat pan to medium high
  5. Cook onions in pan for 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently, until translucent
  6. Move onions to side of pan and place cube steaks in pan
  7. Turn heat to medium low and place onions on top of steaks
  8. When steaks are brown turn over, allowing onions to fall under steaks
  9. Maintaining a low temperature is key to making this method work. This will create super tender cube steaks or pork chops with wonderfully carmelized onions. The dish is done when the onions are carmelized and meat is brown on edges of second side.
