How to make it

  • Wash, dry grapefruit, halve.
  • Remove sections.
  • Cut away all membrane from shells.
  • Place fruit in bowl.
  • Sprinkle with kirsch and brown sugar.
  • Chill the rinds and the fruit.
  • Beat whites until frothy; add sugar gradually and beat until stiff.
  • Drain grapefruit.
  • Put 1/4 cup of sherbert in bottom of grapefruit shell.
  • Top with 1/4 cup of fruit sections.
  • Top with 1/4 cup of vanilla icecream
  • Spread meringue over top of filling to the edges to seal.
  • Place on cookie sheet.
  • Broil until lightly brown.
  • Serve at once.
