Grilled Beef Short Ribs Recipe
GRILLED BEEF SHORT RIBS This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Haddox Estate in Austin, Texas in 1992.

Ingredients
  • 3 pounds beef short ribs
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup catsup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Directions
  1. The day before grilling put sugar and vinegar in pot large enough to hold ribs.
  2. Place over medium heat on top of the stove then cook until vinegar reduces and forms a syrup.
  3. Add broth, water, catsup, paste, mustard, Worcestershire, cloves, chili powder and pepper.
  4. Bring to a boil then add ribs and cook 20 minutes and remove from heat.
  5. Remove ribs from liquid and place covered in the refrigerator.
  6. Cook liquid over medium heat until it becomes thick and syrupy.
  7. The next day light a charcoal grill and place ribs on grill so they are not directly over coals.
  8. Cover grill so smoke collects inside then cook 40 minutes basting with sauce very 10 minutes.
  9. When ribs are well heated remove to platter and serve.
