Ingredients
  • 1 cup rice flour (mochiko)
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons corn starch + 1 1/2 tablespoons water
  • Optional: food coloring

Directions
  1. Put rice flour in bowl and add warm water.
  2. Knead the dough well, adding flour or water as needed to form a soft dough.
  3. Optional: Split the dough into 3 parts and color one pink, one green and leave the third plain.
  4. Form balls from dough, usually smaller then ping pong balls.
  5. Place the dumplings in a steamer and steam on high heat for 10 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and cool dumplings.
  7. When the dumplings have cooled, place them on bamboo skewers (3-4 per stick)
  8. Mix water, sugar and soy sauce in a pan over medium heat.
  9. When the sauce boils, add the starch mixture and mix quickly.
  10. Slightly grill the skewered dumplings and brush the sauce over them.
