How to make it

  • Combine flour, baking powder and salt in medium bowl.
  • Cut in butter until coarse crumbs are formed.
  • Stir in milk with a fork using 1/2 cup to start and only adding more if dough is dry.
  • Gather dough into a ball and gently knead 8 times then wrap in waxed paper.
  • Refrigerate up to 30 minutes for ease in handling.
  • Roll dough on lightly floured surface to form a rectangle.
  • Cut dough lengthwise in half then cut crosswise into thirds to form 5" squares.
  • For filling combine all ingredients.
  • Spoon 1/3 cup apple mixture onto center of each square.
  • Bring corners of dough to center then squeeze all seams tightly to seal.
  • Place dumplings on baking sheet and bake in preheated 400 oven for 30 minutes.
  • Remove to wire rack to cool slightly.
  • Combine brown sugar and cornstarch in small saucepan.
  • Gradually stir in apple concentrate then heat to boiling stirring frequently.
  • Boil and stir 1 minute or until thickened.
  • Spoon syrup over each warm dumpling.
