APPLE RAISIN DUMPLINGS WITH APPLE SYRUP This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Conan Estate in Seagoville, Texas in 1992.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold stick butter cut into pieces
  • 2/3 cup cold milk
  • Filling:
  • 2 medium apples cored peeled and cut into 1/2" cubes
  • 1/3 cup golden raisins
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Syrup:
  • 6 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup apple cider concentrate

Directions
  1. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in medium bowl.
  2. Cut in butter until coarse crumbs are formed.
  3. Stir in milk with a fork using 1/2 cup to start and only adding more if dough is dry.
  4. Gather dough into a ball and gently knead 8 times then wrap in waxed paper.
  5. Refrigerate up to 30 minutes for ease in handling.
  6. Roll dough on lightly floured surface to form a rectangle.
  7. Cut dough lengthwise in half then cut crosswise into thirds to form 5" squares.
  8. For filling combine all ingredients.
  9. Spoon 1/3 cup apple mixture onto center of each square.
  10. Bring corners of dough to center then squeeze all seams tightly to seal.
  11. Place dumplings on baking sheet and bake in preheated 400 oven for 30 minutes.
  12. Remove to wire rack to cool slightly.
  13. Combine brown sugar and cornstarch in small saucepan.
  14. Gradually stir in apple concentrate then heat to boiling stirring frequently.
  15. Boil and stir 1 minute or until thickened.
  16. Spoon syrup over each warm dumpling.
