Chana Dahl Recipe
This is great served over brown rice with nice flat bread.

Ingredients
  • 1-2 T. olive oil
  • 1 t. minced garlic
  • 2 t. minced ginger
  • 1/2 an onion, coarsely chopped
  • 2 t. cumin
  • 1 t. black pepper
  • 1 t. cinnamon
  • 1 t. coriander
  • 1/2 t. cardamon
  • Shake of cloves and nutmeg
  • Second - 2 med'-large coarsely chopped tomatoes or a can diced tomatoes
  • Third -- 2 potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 2 15 oz. cans drained chickpeas, ( reserve the liquid )
  • 1/2 t. salt ( or not )
  • 1 c. frozen peas
  • Fourth -- 1 T. garam masala, added 10 minutes before serving

Directions
  1. 1. Heat the first ingredient list until onions are brown around the edges.
  2. 2, Add the tomatoes to the onion mixture and cook, stirring 3 minutes or so til the tomatoes are soupy.
  3. 3. Add the third group of ingredients to the pot and add the reserve liquid just to cover the bean mixture. ( add a little water if necessary ) .
  4. 4. Simmer uncovered on medium - low heat for 40 minutes or so.
  5. 5. Add garam masala the last 10 minutes of simmering.
