This is a local favorite originating from the Italian section of Newark, NJ. It's a great sandwich, and different than the normal hot dog and bun. Served on Ciabatta as you see in the pic (I made this also), with a salad and it's a meal.

Hey Rob,
This is pretty cool! It is interesting to try the regional recipes for different areas of the USA.
Here where I live you might find Pho, a Vietnamese specialty because I'm in Garden Grove which is highly Vietnamese and Korean.
I have the hotdogs I just bought, I have some seasoned O'brien potatoes left over and I can add a litte more onion and get pretty close to your version here.
Thanks for sharing.
The No Knead bread is "in the works" now. It is rising now and will be baked tomorrow night around 5-6 p.m. I have new pictures on that page that you can check out if you like.

Ohhh this stuff is good. My mom used to make this when I was a kid. It was lovingly refered to as the "Italian stuff". I called it that because it was red, white and green but apparently it really IS Italian stuff! She's old school italian so of course she fried the whole thing. I believe she seasoned it with just salt and pepper but knowing my mom there was probably some garlic powder in there too. This stuff is GREAT with vinegar on it!! Thanks for adding the recipe!

Thanks for you comments. The Hot Dog Store we use to get these at fried everything. At home we try to do away with some frying and use "light" hot dogs. Keep the calories down....LOL This goes a long way also, just cut the hot dogs smaller and add more potatoes, onions and peppers. Enjoy!!
