Mothers Day French Toast

- 1 Round loaf sourdough bread shopping list
- 4 eggs shopping list
- 1 cup milk or half & half shopping list
- 1/3 cup water shopping list
- 1/4 cup rum, Chambord or Bailey's irish cream (optional) shopping list
- 1 tbsp. granulated sugar shopping list
- 2 tsp. cinnamon shopping list
- 2 tsp. salt shopping list
- 1 Dash pepper shopping list
- 1 - 2 sticks butter, as needed shopping list
- maple syrup shopping list
- fruit, such as strawberries, blueberries or raspberries shopping list
How to make it
- Beat eggs in large bowl until frothy
- Add milk, water, liquor, sugar, cinnamon, salt and pepper, until well blended
- Pour into a large shallow dish, at least 9x12 inches
- Slice bread into 3/4 inch to 1 inch slices
- Place into the mixture, turning often, coating both sides of the bread until mixture is soaked through
- Can be left covered int he refrigerator overnight
- On high heat, melt 4 tbsp. butter in a large skillet, until it sizzles and before it turns brown
- Reduce heat to medium high and with a spatula, gently place slices of bread in the skillet
- Turn often and cook until bread is light to medium brown
- Add butter, as necessary
- Turn onto plate and serve with maple syrup, confectionery sugar or fruit
