How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 325.
  • Butter an 8-1/2"x4-1/2" loaf pan.
  • In bowl,toss the chopped dates with the baking soda.
  • Add the butter.
  • Pour the boiling water all over the dates and let stand for 20 minutes.
  • In bowl,whisk the flour with the sugar and salt.
  • Add the eggs and the vanilla and stir with a fork to combine.
  • Stir in the chopped walnuts and the date mixture.
  • Pour the bread batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for about 55 minutes,or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the date-nut bread comes out clean.
  • Let bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes,then turn it out onto a wire rack and let cool completely.
