Devils Velvet Cake

- 2 ½ c cake flour shopping list
- 1/2 c cocoa (NOT dutch process) shopping list
- 1 ts baking soda shopping list
- 1/2 ts baking powder shopping list
- 1/2 ts salt shopping list
- 3/4 c butter shopping list
- 1 2/3 c sugar shopping list
- 3 eggs shopping list
- 1 ½ ts vanilla extract shopping list
- 1 ½ c water shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Coast two 9-inch layer cake pans with nonstick cooking spray
- Sift flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt together and set aside.
- Beat butter, sugar and eggs in large electric mixer bowl at high speed 3 minutes or until fluffy-light.
- Combine water and vanilla.
- With your mixer at low speed, add sifted dry ingredients alternately with water mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredient; scrape bowl often and beat after each addition only enough to combine.
- DO NOT OVER-MIX.
- Divide batter between pans, smoothing tops, and bake 30 to 35 minutes, until a cake tester inserted in center of layers comes out clean and cakes are springy to touch.
- Cool layers in pans on wire racks, then turn out on racks.
