How to make it

  • Put raspberries and vinegar in a 1 quart jar. Seal jar and let stand in a sunny window 4 days. Strain vinegar in a small stainless steel enamel saucepan then discard berries. Stir in sugar and heat over medium heat until mixture comes to a boil. Simmer over low heat for 10 minutes. Cool and pour into pint bottle. Cover and store in a cool dry place or store in the refrigerator.

    This is a great old-fashioned "tonic" that my 89-year-old dad still makes from his grandmother's recipe, and who knows which ancient relative she got it from?
