How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 400 then butter a rectangular cake pan well.
  • Beat butter until creamy and light then gradually add sugars beating until creamy and smooth.
  • Beat in eggs then vanilla.
  • Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon together.
  • Stir dry ingredients into the butter mixture alternating with 1/2 cup reserved syrup.
  • Begin and end with dry ingredients then stir in pears and pour batter into pan.
  • Bake 30 minutes then turn cake out onto a rack and allow it to cool completely.
  • Dust with confectioners' sugar and serve.
